Monrovia, Liberia - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai says Liberia values the friendship of Mainland China, an emerging world power.

He assured the People’s Republic of China that Liberia’s friendship this time around is genuine, saying, “We are peaceful and loving despite of our recent violent past”.

Vice President Boakai gave the assurance Wednesday, when a three-man team of Chinese investors paid a courtesy call on him to acquaint him with their desire to invest in the country.

The group included a Chinese Doctor Sun Shaobing, Chinese Scholar and author Yue Jinbo and the Vice Chairman of the International Charitable Fund, Brian Zhang.

Vice President Boakai said Liberia requires a strong partnership to develop the National Lotteries, the profits of which help fund the Group of ’77, an organization that caters to the disabled, and the country’s sporting program.

He re-echoed President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s recent observation that one of the acute problems confronting Liberia is the shortage of medical doctors, adding, “only a healthy people can be productive”.

“We need good doctors, people with your experience and knowledge to share with our people,” he emphasized.

In remarks, Mr. Jinbo, a university professor expressed Chinese investors’ strong interest in doing business in Liberia.

He said he was impressed with Liberia’s profile, a country with rich soil, adequate farmland and rainfall. “This country can be turned around in no time. It wouldn’t take long for this country to develop,” Mr. Jinbo said.

Mr. Jinbo said he was interested in investing in the agriculture, transport, and that the country boasts of huge potential in the building construction.

The three men later showered several gifts on the Vice President.
