Monrovia, Liberia - The departing Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General, Jordan Ryan, called on Vice President Joseph N. Boakai at his Capitol Building office to bid him farewell on March 17.

Mr. Ryan, who has ended his tour of duty in Liberia, is expected to take up a new assignment at UN headquarters in New York.

Vice President Boakai lauded the Deputy SRSG and the United Nations in general for their sterling contributions to Liberiaís post-war reconstruction effort. He hoped Mr. Ryan would serve as Liberiaís goodwill ambassador wherever he goes.

The Vice President and Mr. Ryan discussed a range of issues, including sexual and gender-based violence and exploitation, and stressed the need for women and youth empowerment if Liberia is to regain her rightful place in the comity of nations.

Mr. Ryan praised Governmentís commitment to improving the livelihoods of Liberians, and assured that the United Nations would continue to provide security to ensure that the post-war country does not slide back into conflict.
