Chinese Government Completes Renovation Work at Foreign Ministry

Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has commended the Government of the Peopleís Republic of China for its continuous support to Liberia. The President expressed appreciation to the Chinese contingent of UNMIL for going beyond its peacekeeping duties by working towards the repair of major roads in the country.

The President spoke on Thursday at the Foreign Ministry during a program marking the official turnover of the renovated portion of the Foreign Ministry. The Project was undertaken by the government of China.

Earlier, Chinese Ambassador Lin Songtian spoke of his Governmentís continuous support to Liberia. He said the renovation work which included the completion of  the interior part of the building, the roof, maintenance and electrical wiring is now complete. The Chinese Ambassador also announced that the ongoing refurbishment of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex will be handed over to the Liberian Government before July 26, 2007. Ambassador Lin emphasized Chinaís commitment to ensuring peace in the country which he says will lead to sustainable development.

For his part, Foreign Minister George Wallace thanked the Chinese Government for repairing the building as both he and Ambassador Lin signed the certificate of the completion of the project.

Also present at the program were officials of the Foreign Ministry and Liberiaís Ambassador to China Madam Neh Dukuly Tolbert.
