Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Belgium for its continuous support to Liberiaís national reconstruction process. The President traced the longstanding relationship between both countries dating back to the days of King Leopold, former King of Belgium.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian Leader was speaking on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when she received His Excellency Dirk Verheyen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Liberia.

President Johnson Sirleaf lauded Belgiumís support to Liberia through non-governmental organizations, mainly Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF). The President recalled her recent exchange of views with King Albert II, and said she was very impressed with his knowledge of Liberia.

For his part, Ambassador Verheyen pledged his countryís continuous support and thanked President Johnson-Sirleaf for participating in the recent Conference on Corruption and Governance held in Brussels.
