Vice President Boakai Off To Mali

Monrovia, Liberia - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai departed the country Tuesday for Bamako, Mali to represent President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at a forum organized by the Africa Editors' Forum.

The forum which will be officially opened on Thursday by Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure, will discuss several topics including: 'Media and the Challenge of Peace in Africa'; 'Online Tools in the Newsroom: Information Literacy for Editors' and Quality of Journalism'.

At a gala dinner to be held on Thursday, the Africa Editorsí Forum will honor several current and past African leaders, including President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, former South African Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki, Alpha Konare of Mali and John Kufuor of Ghana.

Vice President Boakai will receive the honor on behalf of President Johnson Sirleaf who is currently on a visit in Libya.

Also at the dinner, African journalists who lost their lives during the discharge of their professional duties, including Deyda Hydara, Norbert Zongo, Pius Njawe, Jean Leonard Rugambage and Chief Manneh, will be honored.

The Vice President and party return to the country on Sunday, October 17. On the Vice Presidentís delegation are Deputy Information Minister Norris Tweah and Veteran Liberian Journalist Kenneth Y. Best.
