Monrovia, Liberia - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has described the fallen founding official of the ruling Unity Party, Mr. Joseph Derrick as one of the brains behind the party, and was therefore always held in high esteem.

“We always felt that he was part of us, and hence we consider his demise a great loss,” Vice President Boakai said Friday evening, when he paid a visit to Mr. Derrick’s family in Barnersville.

He told family members of the fallen former Secretary General of the Unity Party that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was very disturbed when he heard about Mr. Derrick’s home-going, especially as she was not informed about his illness.

Vice President Boakai assured the family that government would underwrite the entire funeral expenses.

The last position Mr. Derrick held was Director of the National Fire Service. He died on Tuesday, January 4 at the S.D Cooper Clinic in Sinkor following a brief illness.

According to family members, his remains will be buried on the 21st of January, 2011.
