Liberia to Hold First ICT Conference

Monrovia, Liberia - The first Liberian ICT Conference aimed at formulating a National Policy on Information & Communications Technology is scheduled for April 23, 2007 through April 27, 2007.

According to the Presidential Committee on Information & Communications Technology (ICT), a Draft Policy document on ICT has already been developed and would be open for discussions and comments during the conference.

The new policy when adopted will;
-    Support the governmentís initiatives on the Interim Poverty Reduction Strategy Program                 (iPRSP) using ICT
-    Standardize ICT operational systems and administrative procedures in the country
-    Set the framework to develop and implement ICT Programs in the Counties and local communities
-    Broaden our national academic curriculum to create careers in the ICT sector and raise overall       awareness.

The conference will bring together, heads of Government Ministries and Agencies; County Superintendents and Officials; the Business Community; the Financial District and multinational institutions to include Georgia Institute of Technology, MICROSOFT, CISCO, OSIWA, ZTE Corporation, HAUWEI and the World Bank among others.
