Friday, 27th May 2011

Monrovia, Liberia - Italian Philanthropist Varo Macchi, Jr., has coordinated the donation of 14 professional security motorbikes worth nearly half a million United States Dollars to the Liberian government.

The bikes are decommissioned police and secret service motorbikes donated by several municipalities in Italy.

The donation was a result of Vice President Joseph N. Boakaiís direct appeal to the Italian people through Mr. Macchi who is also the Representative of Liberiaís Maritime Bureau in Italy, for logistical and material support for the security.

Taking delivery of the motorbikes which arrived from the Freeport of Monrovia Friday, Vice President Boakai stressed the need to provide logistical support to state security agencies so as to enhance national security, especially as the country gears up for elections later this year.

Vice President Boakai promised to continue to reach out to ensure that the country attains the required level of reconstruction and development.

He said the motorbikes will be used to enhance the work of security forces around the country.

It can be recalled that about two years ago, Mr. Macchi through similar arrangement in Italy, donated 28 high-end BMW and Suzuki police cars to the Liberia National Police following an appeal from Vice President Boakai.
