Church Honors Second Lady

Monrovia, Liberia - The Effort Baptist Church in Paynesville has honored the Second Lady of Liberia, Mrs. Kartumu Y. Boakai as the Church’s Mother of the Year 2007/2008.

The colorful ceremony was held at the Church’s edifice with  Vice President Joseph N. Boakai and other dignitaries in attendance.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Boakai who is also Executive Director of the Group of ’77 called on all mothers to be committed, loving, caring and to play the role of  teacher, ruler and caretaker at the same time.

She said her recognition will only inspire her to make even greater sacrifices for the well-being of humanity.

“What I do I do only for God. It is what God has put in me and I do it in return,” she said.

Madam Boakai thanked the Women Ministry, the Deacon and Pastoral Board of the Church for the honor bestowed on her,  saying “I don’t take this honor for myself, but to the glory of God,” she added.

Several groups, institutions and individuals in remarks, gave testimonies of the Second Lady’s sterling contribution to the state and humanity.

In remarks, the Pastor  of the Effort Baptist Church, Reverend Trokon Langford, described the honoree as a good person and a woman of consistency.

He said since he first met Mrs. Boakai 15 years ago, she has not wavered in her service  to the church, despite her elevation in life.

In remarks, Vice President Boakai praised the Second Lady for the motherly role she has continued to play since he met her.
