Monrovia, Liberia - The Liberian National Red Cross Society has conferred on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the title of Chief Patron of the Liberia National Red Cross Society. The title was conferred on the President by Mrs. Theresa Leigh-Sherman, President of the Society, at an investiture ceremony held on Monday at the Foreign Ministry.

An Executive Mansion release quotes President Johnson Sirleaf as saying, she was glad that the Red Cross had regained its vibrancy.  Liberia, the President said, needs a preparatory mechanism in place to prepare the country to give the necessary support to respond to disasters.

Liberia National Red Cross President, Mrs. Leigh-Sherman said President Johnson Sirleaf has had an illustrious career and truly deserved the title.

The investiture ceremony was witnessed by the Foreign Minister George Wallace, Monrovia City Mayor Ophelia Hoff-Saytumah and officials of the Liberia National Red Cross Society.

Meanwhile, a number of changes have been made in the Special Security Service (SSS) at the Executive Mansion by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Mr. Victor Helb has been reappointed Director of the Service, replacing Mr. Chris Massaquoi, who has been reassigned as Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization.

Mr. George A. Hansford becomes the Deputy Director for Administration, while Mr. Sam Brisbane Jr. has been named Deputy for Operations, and Eric Bracewell, Assistant Director for Administration.

The changes take immediate effect.
