Liberian Cabinet Holds Retreat

Monrovia, Liberia - Cabinet members have held a retreat at the Baptist Seminary outside Monrovia. Friday’s retreat which ran well over eight hours, assessed the performance of the various sectors of government in the benchmarks set by government in its development drive during the fiscal year. The retreat reviewed up-to-date progress by the various government Development Pillars and the challenges in meeting set target dates for the implementation of the set goals.

The retreat chaired by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was briefed on the various aspects of income generation and expenditure, security, infrastructure, governance as well as peace and security.

An Executive Mansion release says, the retreat also reviewed other policy issues being formulated by government to meet the country’s overall development objectives, with principal focus on the Deliverables which target the Poverty Reduction Strategy of Government.

The Cabinet also reviewed and considered a proposal toward the formation of a resource Mobilization Working Group within the secretariat of the Liberia Reconstruction & Development Committee (LRDC), to deepen the country’s external mobilization efforts and strengthen the tracking and monitoring process of commitments to government.

President Johnson Sirleaf thanked Cabinet members for their participation and the welcomed the discussions on the various policy issues as well as initiatives being taken by various Ministries and Agencies to address the needs of the people.

The President reiterated her call on Cabinet Ministers to reach out to the public by informing them through radio programs and newspapers of programs being undertaken within their sectors. “The more the citizens are informed, the better appreciation they would have for the efforts and the challenges we face,” the President reminded cabinet ministers.

Friday’s Cabinet retreat was the second this year.
