Scholarships for Liberian Girls Soon

Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says arrangements are been finalized to provide fifty (50) scholarships, mainly for Liberian girls to study in the United States of America.

Making the disclosure Tuesday upon her return from the United States, President Johnson Sirleaf said, the Women Council of World Leaders are making available the scholarships in response to the Presidentís efforts to help improve the educational level of the girl child in Liberia.

President Johnson Sirleaf has also disclosed that Marquette University in Wisconsin, the United States is making available a four-year scholarship for a female student to attend the University, beginning next academic year.

The President also informed the press that another Women Policy Group which comprises Congressional women and High-level administrative groups in America has raised an initial amount of US$7,000 (seven-thousand dollars) towards the Market Women Fund. The Fund which will be channeled through the African Development Fund based in Accra, Ghana, will help start the renovation of markets across the country, following the assessment of all market facilities across the country.
