Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has signed into law the National Budget for the Fiscal Year 2007/2008, amounting to U.S. 199,383,953.00 (one-hundred & ninety-nine million, three hundred & eighty-three thousand, nine-hundred & fifty three dollars). Education, Health, the National Legislature, Public Works as well as Agriculture received the highest budgetary rankings.

Making remarks during the signing ceremony the President praised the National Legislature for the high level of cooperation between the Executive and Legislative branches of government during the budget review process. Both branches, an Executive Mansion release quoted the President as saying, were able to dialogue to find a consensus. The President expressed delight that the budget process was successfully concluded with the full input of the national legislature.

The signing exercise on Monday at the foreign ministry was witnessed by House Speaker Alex Tyler, Acting Senate Pro-Tempore Daniel Naatehn, Senator Richard Devine, Representatives Emmanuel Neequaye, and Malian Jaleeba. Foreign Minister George Wallace and Minister of State for Financial and Legal Affairs Morris Saytumah were also present at the signing exercise.
