President Sirleaf Holds Consultation with members of the Dissolved Board of the Liberia National Red Cross Society; Appoints Interim Head of the LNRCS

Thursday, 10th March 2016
Monrovia, Liberia - Following consultations with members of the dissolved Board of Directors of the Liberian National Red Cross Society and partners on Thursday, March 10, 2016, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has named Mr.  J. Ebenezer Kolliegbo, a Volunteer member of the dissolved Board of the LNRCS as Interim Head of the Society.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader will also reactivate/reconstitute the LNRCS Board shortly following consultations with stakeholders and international partners.
It can be recalled that an audit of the operations of the Liberian National Red Cross Society, particularly during the Ebola Crisis by Moore Stephens unearthed the misapplication of over $US 1.8m by the Management Team at the Red Cross headed by Mr. Emmanuel O. Kparh.
The unfolding events at the Liberian National Red Cross Society have since drawn the attention of international partners and donors of the Red Cross with the recent suspension of support by the British Red Cross.
Meanwhile, the Under Secretary General for Programs and Operations of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Mr. Garry Conille arrives in Liberia on Sunday, March 13, 2016 to take up the matter affecting the LNRCS.
President Sirleaf has assured Liberians and international partners that all efforts will be exerted to restore the credibility and integrity of the Liberia National Red Cross Society with the aim of ensuring that the LNRCS refocuses on its humanitarian objectives. Steps have also been taken to secure the offices of the LNRCS amid a defiant statement from Mr. Kparh relative to the dissolution of the Board of Directors of the LNRCS and the halting of the activities of the Management team by President Sirleaf.
