Monrovia, Liberia - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has thanked members of the Unity Party Womenís Wing for remembering underprivileged children as Liberia celebrates the 160th anniversary of National Flag Day.

The President applauded the women over the weekend when she joined them to identify with some orphanages in suburbs around Monrovia.

An Executive Mansion release says the tour of the orphanages was designed to make the young children feel a part of the countryís National Flag Day.

The President was invited by the Partyís Women to form part of the tour. The items donated to the orphanages, included bags of rice and other cooking ingredients, bought out of contributions made by women of the Unity Party.

Speaking on behalf of the Women, Maryland County Senator Gloria Scott said they were pleased to identify with the young children. Senator Scott encouraged them to learn, rise above the odds and be good citizens for the future. Senator Scott also called on the orphans to see President Johnson Sirleaf as role model worthy of emulation.

The President and the Unity Party women visited orphanages in the Gardnerville area, including the Great Commission Orphanage, the Christian Martyrs Orphanage, the Love A Child Orphanage as well as the Mother Wreh Orphanage.
