Vice President Boakai Holds Talks With Italy-Based Expo 2015

Lisbon, Portugal - Liberia´s Vice President Joseph N. Boakai arrived in the Portuguese capital Lisbon Saturday morning to participate in the 2007 EU-Africa Summit.

Vice President Boakai was met upon arrival at the Lisbon International Airport by Liberia´s Ambassador to Portugal McKinley Thomas.

Shortly after arrival, Vice President Boakai held discussions with officials of the Italy based Expo 2015 which is launching an initiative code-named:  "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".

The Secretary General of this Non-Governmental Organization Expo 2015, Paolo Glisenti, accompanied by Italy´s Foreign Minister Claudio Moreno, presented a proposal to Vice President Boakai which aims to forge a partnership with post-war Liberia.

Mr. Glisenti informed Vice President Boakai that the euro 92 million programme aims to promote environmental sustainability projects sustainable development in partnership with developing countries.

In continuation of his visit to Portugal, the Liberian Vice President Boakai will this afternoon be guest at a luncheon to be hosted by the Prime Minister of Portugal, and a banquet to be tendered  this evening by the President of Portugal.

The summit which opened today Saturday, grouped together heads of state and representatives of 52 member states of the African Union, 27 member states of the European Union and European Commissioners.

Observers from European and Pan African Parliaments, ACP-EU Joint Assembly, African sub-regional organizations and civil society groups are also participating in the summit which aims to forge a closer partnership between the European Union and African Union.
