Monrovia, Liberia - The Mayor of the Italian city of Milan, Letizia Moratti has disclosed that the Municipality of Milan is to provide scholarships to Liberians to study medical science and tourism management.

In a communication to Vice President Boakai, Mayor Moratti said the Municipality of Milan will also organize training for firemen and provide fire fighting equipment to the city of Monrovia before the end of April.

In the letter dated March 21, Madam Letizia also announced that the city will also organize training in mechanized agriculture for Liberian farmers, and that two tractors have been shipped to Liberia in support of this.

The Milan City Mayor expressed optimism that the mutual cooperation might be extended to other areas.

He named one medical project that Milan is financing as the provision of cure for children with heart ailments.
“A means of cooperation might be the fund earmarked in cooperation with Planet Finance, founded by Jacques Attali, which could represent an important opportunity to develop the microfinance sector, in particular to strengthen women’s entrepreneurial capability,” Madam Moratti said in the communication.

The assistance, the Milan Mayor said, is within the context of the 2015 Milan Expo  being held under the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”.
