10 November Press Briefing

The Executive Mansion is pleased to note the following developments:
  • As a result of President Ellen Johnson Sirleafís appeal to the McCall McBain Foundation of Canada, the Executive Mansion is pleased to inform the general public that 10 buses have been donated by the Foundation to help ease transport difficulties. The 10 buses will be operated by the Monrovia Transit Authority (MTA). The prime objective of the Presidentís appeal to McCall McBain was to bring relief to school children. However, President Johnson Sirleaf wants it made emphatically clear that there will be reduced fares for school children only who would benefit from the new transport service.
  • On the security front, the President remains positive regarding the prospects of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the Liberia National Police (LNP). She is also delighted that the ERU is now operating as well as conducting joint night patrols. She remains confident that the success of the ERU is core to protecting lives and property as Liberians go about their normal activities.
  • President Johnson Sirleaf will this week recommence Town Hall Meetings with community dwellers in certain parts of the country. During these meetings, she will also sieze the opportunity to inspect community development projects.
  • The President is also pleased to disclose that she has sent a congratulatory message to President-elect Barack Obama on the occasion of his winning the United States Presidential elections. In this regard, the President is confident that the strong U.S.-Liberia partnership will continue with the incoming administration.
