Vice President Arrives in Abuja for ECOWAS Summit

Abuja, Nigeria - Liberiaís Vice President Joseph N. Boakai accompanied by his Chief of Office Staff Samuel Stevquoah and Planning and Economic Affairs Minister Amara Konneh, arrived on Thursday in the Nigerian capital Abuja to attend the 35th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

Vice President Boakai, also accompanied by Assistant Foreign Minister Robert Lormia, among others, held discussions with Lebanese businessman Farid Abou Hassan at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel. Vice President Boakai thanked Mr. Hassan, proprietor of Eldorado Nigeria Limited, for his recent donation of copy books and  pens to the Liberian Government to assist in its free primary education campaign.He said the Liberian government which is just emerging from a disastrous civil conflict, deeply appreciates such gestures. The Liberian Vice President noted that even though the war-torn country has a lot of challenges, it has a lot of opportunities that well-meaning businesspeople like Mr. Hassan can take advantage of.

In remarks, Mr, Hassan, who paid a courtesy calI on Vice President Boakai at his Hilton Hotel suite, said he was impressed by the strides President Ellen Johnson Sirleafís Unity Party Government is making to improve livelihoods inLiberia.

Mr. Hassan assured his willingness to assist Liberia at all times. He said he considers the country his home because his sister was born there.
