The Government of Liberia has made it clear that any action instituted in its fight against corruption will be done in keeping with the law.
In a radio address Thursday on corruption, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said, firing and prosecuting people may be crowd pleasing, but such measures must be in a legal and timely manner not through pressure from any source, public or private, but consistent with what is right and in conformity with the law.

The government of Sweden has responded to a recent request by the President to provide funding to assist Liberian schools in their feeding program. Sweden is providing US $3-million to support the country’s School Feeding Program. The program would have ended in December due to the lack of funds.

As you all know, the issue of Liberians residing in the United States has been a critical issue as far as their continued stay is concerned. The United States House of Representatives did pas a legislation which will allow Liberians to stay for an additional year. That bill is still awaiting the concurrence of the United States Senate. Now the President has added her voice to the issue of Liberians in the United States.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf hosted a press conference on Thursday August 23, 2007 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the conference, President Sirleaf highlighted a broad range of issues including the national budget, sea erosion, security, unemployment, debt relief, infrastructure and the rehabilitation of roads as well as the repairs of bridges, particularly the Vai Town Bridge.
