Foundations
The international donor community has played a significant role in assisting Liberia’s reconstruction and development during the first three years of the Sirleaf Administration. In particular, Liberia has received strong contributions from a small but growing group of foundations and philanthropists who have provided valuable support in addition to Liberia’s traditional bilateral and multilateral partners.
In an effort to facilitate and strengthen philanthropist-supported contributions, the Government of Liberia, with generous support from foundations including the NoVo Foundation, Humanity United, the Daphne Foundation and the McCall McBain Foundation, established the Philanthropy Secretariat in April 2009. The two-person unit resides within the Office of the President.
The Philanthropy Secretariat represents a new model for donor-government collaboration in countries in transition that seeks to increase the effectiveness and impact of philanthropist supported activities. Specifically the Philanthropy Secretariat focuses on the following primary objectives:

- Strategically conduct outreach to new philanthropic partners
