The President said as a means of developing the agricultural sector of the country, Government is shifting a little from the mineral industry and expanding in agriculture production. The President made particular mention of the peanut commodity, which, she observed, is widely consumed but not produced in the country.
The Liberian leader has, meanwhile, lauded the delegation from the University of Georgia for its initiatives. She expressed hope that the University will expand its partnership to other areas.
An Executive Mansion release says the Liberian Chief Executive was speaking on August 10 when a four-man delegation from the University of Georgia paid a courtesy call on her.
The President of the University, Dr. Michael Adams, expressed satisfaction to be in Liberia. He assured the Liberian leader that the University would undertake development initiatives in Liberia as the institution has done in other countries. Similar programs, Dr. Adams disclosed, have been undertaken by his institution in China and more than ten African countries.
Since 2007, the University of Georgia has forged a strong partnership with a number of institutions in Liberia including the Liberian Institute for Public Administration (LIPA). Through the partnership, the University has completed several faculty exchanges to develop the professional skills and knowledge of LIPA staff.
The University also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) recently with Cuttington University College. Dr. Adams disclosed that next week a faculty member from the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government will travel to Liberia to become the first Fulbright scholar in Liberia since the war.
The University’s delegation is visiting Liberia to build on the successes achieved thus far and explore new areas of cooperation in two sectors – governance/public administration and agriculture.
