President Sirleaf Constitutes Screening Committee to Vet Public Land Deeds, Imposes 3-Month Moratorium on Land Sales

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has constituted a 10-member Screening Committee to vet all Pubic Land Deeds in the country.
Appointed are: Dr. Cecil T.O. Brandy, Chairman of the Land Commission, as Chairman, and Mr. James Yarsiah, Co-Chair, representing Civil Society.
Other members of the Screening Committee are:
Hon. Eugene Shannon, Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy;
Hon. Peter Kamei, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs;
Hon. Christiana Tah, Minister of Justice; Hon. Florence Chenoweth, Minister of Agriculture;
Hon. Samuel Kofi Woods, Minister of Public Works;
Dr. Richard Tolbert, Chairman, National Investment Commission;
Dr. Alfred Amah, Executive Director, Environmental Protection Agency; and
Hon. Moses Wogbeh, Managing Director, Forestry Development Authority.
The President has directed the Screening Committee to start work immediately, in keeping with the guidelines and procedures outlined in the Interim Measures recommended by the Land Commission.
President Sirleaf further directs that a three-month moratorium on all public land sales not currently before her be implemented immediately.
The President indicated that this Interim Measure will give the Land Commission the time needed to develop policies, propose legal reform and establish guidelines and procedures for effecting Public Land Sales.
