Chinese Ambassador Re-commits His Government’s Assistance

Monrovia, Liberia - The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Jianhua has recommitted his country’s continued support to Liberia’s reconstruction and development.
He said China’s primary focus after the elected government is seated will be on social and economic development cooperation in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure and vocational training, depending on the priorities of the re-elected government.
“China is a good partner; we would like to cooperate with the Liberian government in terms of support and government assistance,” Ambassador Zhao said during a courtesy call he paid on Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. at his Capitol Building Office on Tuesday, November 22.
During the visit, Ambassador Zhao conveyed a message of congratulations from the Vice President of China, Xi jinping to Vice President Boakai.
He said a similar message was conveyed to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from the President of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the Chinese Envoy, Vice President Xi  assured that China would continue to work  the Liberian Government to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Xi said the People’s Republic of China was also trying to expand its assistance to Liberia in the agriculture area in terms of trilateral cooperation, and mentioned the recent agreement the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the People’s Republic of China signed with the government of Liberia to develop agriculture in Liberia.
In response, Vice President Boakai said hoped the cordial ties subsisting between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China would continue to grow and improve.
 He commended China for the progress it is making in the world economic landscape during these times of global economic recession.
 Vice President Boakai used the occasion to recognize the growing business ties between Liberia  and the  People’s Republic of China , as exemplified by the frequent visits of Liberian business women to China on business trips.
 Vice President Boakai said the Liberian Government looks forward to working with the Chinese Embassy  in promoting cultural, development and other ties between the two countries.
