Vice President Boakai Assures Citizens of Grand Bassa County

Monrovia, Liberia - Liberia’s Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has assured citizens of Grand Bassa County that the goal of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf-led Government is to restore war torn Liberia to its old status as one of the leading countries in the West African sub-region.

He said the Unity Party is not a party of empty pronouncements, and that officials of the government are willing to deprive themselves to ensure that the policies of the government are carried out to the letter.

Vice President Boakai gave the assurance Wednesday during a fact-finding visit to  Grand Bassa County.

The visit  coincided with the launch of the campaign of the Unity Party Candidate, Abel Nyounbol for the District Number Three By-election for the House of Representatives.

The by-election slated for July 10, is to replace Representative Sundaygar who passed away two months ago following a protracted illness.

The Vice President said the travels President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf undertakes are to ensure that Liberia regains her status among the comity of nations.

He disclosed government’s plan to transform Grand Bassa County into an ‘Economic Zone’ which will host several manufacturing plants.

Grand Bassa County Superintendent Julia Duncan Cassell who accompanied Vice President Boakai on the tour of the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC), including Bear Bear Camp and ‘Death Hole’,  said the progress taking place in Grand Bassa County was commendable.

The Vice President and party returned to Monrovia Thursday.
