Monrovia, Liberia - The Liberian Government has conferred on outgoing Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia one of the country’s highest honors, the "Grand Band in the Order of the Star of Africa."

Conferring the honor early this week at an investiture, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf lauded the sacrifices made by Ambassador Eineje E. Onobu on behalf of his country and the people of Nigeria in the restoration of peace and stability to Liberia. The Liberia leader, according to an Executive Mansion release, described the outgoing Ambassador, as a true patriot who has dedicated his time and energy in the service of his nation, continent and people. The President spoke of Nigeria as Africa’s giant and a true friend that has stood by Liberia in time of war and peace.

The Liberian government in a citation, recounting the contributions Ambassador Onobu has made toward the restoration of peace in Liberia during the more than four years of his tenure in the country. Ambassador Onobu thanked President Johnson Sirleaf and the people of Liberia for the honor and renewed Nigeria’s commitment to assisting Liberia in its development agenda.

The ceremony was witnessed by members of the diplomatic corp, Cabinet ministers, Traditional leaders, the Nigerian Community in Liberia and other well wishers.
