President Boakai Makes Administrative Reforms at Liberia Airport Authority; Suspends Gender Ministry Official and Announces Board Appointments

Executive Mansion, Monrovia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has directed the Managing Director of the Liberia Airport Authority, Honorable Ernest R. Hughes, to resume active duty following the conclusion of an investigation conducted by a team of experts constituted by the Ministry of Justice.

According to the Ministry, the investigation established that there is no evidence of corruption at the Authority. However, the report identified administrative and managerial shortcomings, including lapses in established hiring processes and a breakdown in the working relationship between the Board of Directors and Management.

In response to the report, President Boakai called on both the Board and Management of the Authority to take immediate and deliberate action to address the institutional challenges identified. The President further directed that steps be taken to review the Liberia Airport Authority Act to eliminate ambiguities and clarify overlapping functions between governance and management structures.

The Board has been instructed to lead this reform process in close collaboration with Management and report back to the President within a specified timeframe.

In a related development, the President has suspended Ms. Josephine Greeves, Assistant Minister for Research, Planning and Policy at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, without pay following her indictment by the Grand Jury of Criminal Court “A.” The indictment stems from an application by the Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force.

The suspension remains in effect pending the outcome of adjudication, in line with established standards of public accountability and due process.

The  Liberian Leader has also made the following appointments to boards of public institutions:
  • Board of Trustees, William V. S. Tubman University: Mr. Floyd Thomas – Chairman’s Representative
  • Board of Trustees, Bong County University: Mr. Jeremiah C. Sulunteh – Chairman
  • Board of Directors, Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI): Dr. Charles Mulbah – Member
